about rachel duvall
Rachel DuVall lives and works in Los Angeles, California. DuVall investigates natural colour and geometric form through the process of dying and hand weaving linen on a floor loom. DuVall’s praxis investigates the juxtaposition of the formality of weaving and geometry with the-imprecise practice of handmade creation. By using repetition of line and shape, the work investigates the relationship between the rigid framework required to produce a weaving and the flexible imperfect nature of the materials and the handmade. Her work is available in both wall dependent, framed and stretched work as well as larger scale traditional hanging tapestry.
Rachel DuVall received a BFA in Fiber from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2008. She was most recently an Artist in Residence at the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation in 2020. DuVall’s work has been widely exhibited along the West Coast, including at The Main Museum, Los Angeles, Outpost Projects, Joshua Tree, Dust to Dust Projects, Portland, and many others.
