amco house No. 1
2018
Our very first AMCo project where our firm was the only client! We purchased a century-old Edwardian home in Toronto’s West End that needed all the love in the world. With Alison's family as the lifestyle model for this project, we worked carefully to create a space based on a busy young family of four who loved everything from hosting large dinner parties to snuggling by the fire with music and storybooks.
Taking this house back to the studs with a small addition to the back corner of the home, we designed a new layout, added new windows and doors, installed incredible 12" wide Douglas Fir flooring and built custom millwork wherever possible. We worked carefully to maintain as much of the existing character and charm that we could and chose to refinish the original fireplace mantles, paint and stain out the existing stairwell and rehang the 100 year old front door + hardware.
At the end of the renovation, we thoughtfully placed artworks to bring personality and emotion to the home and it felt amazing to support artists, live amongst their work and help share and spread their message. The result was a completely custom built home that Alison and her family lived in for three years. We all look at it with love and it will forever be our first AMCo house.
